Bi-Done, Debates Took Out Biden
Cowtown Caller predicted four weeks ago, after Trump was convicted on 34 criminal counts of financial misconduct that Biden was done, the race was now Trump v Kennedy.
Barring the replacement of Biden on the Democrat ticket, this prediction will remain true.
The Biden campaign suffered its death knell during the debates. There is no possible way to recover from the numerous gaffes and instances of apparent discombobulation Biden suffered (example above).
The moments of perceived senility will populate attack ads for the remainder of Biden’s presidency. Notably, the following day, like after Biden’s gaffes during the State of The Union, Biden was put into damage control mode.
The President held a rally in North Carolina. He said, “Folks, I don’t walk as easy as I used to, I don’t speak as smoothly as I used to, I don’t debate as well as I used to. But I know what I do know: I know how to tell the truth.”
The hour of the rally was odd, noon on a work day. It was not a great time to get people to turnout and it was not a great time for an octogenarian candidate who had debated until 10 PM and then rallied until midnight the previous evening.
The time of the rally was dictated by the same thing that likely exacerbated the infirmity Biden displayed on the debate stage. “From 10 AM to 4 PM, Biden is dependably engaged — and many of his public events in front of cameras are held within those hours. Outside of that time range or while traveling abroad, Biden is more likely to have verbal miscues and become fatigued,” aides told Axios after the debate. The publication of this information did not triage waining confidence in the 46th president.
Fifteen minutes before the debate concluded, phones across the country lit up with a notification from left-leaning Politico that read, “‘Biden Is Toast’ Democratic insiders are already freaking out over Joe Biden’s hoarse voice and shaky debate performance.”
This early no-confidence vote has been followed by similar leaks to the press from White House insiders.
Katty Kay, a prominent BBC reporter, posted, “Hearing from [White House] that conversations are happening that put all options on the table.”
“What I am hearing regarding Joe Biden. Ron Klain [former Biden Chief of Staff] and Barack Obama are having a sit down with the President today. Jill Biden is insistent that Joe runs. Kamala is furious that she is not being considered as a replacement (Whitmer and Newsom are). Interestingly my neighbor in East Hampton is hosting the Bidens tomorrow. It will be an important tell if the fundraiser is canceled,” Dougie Kass, a Democratic donor, posted.
While that fundraiser did end up occurring, there are reports that donors in the Hamptons are divided on sticking with Biden, and mega-donors in California are canceling fundraisers.
Typically, donors do not take to the press in this manner.
The reason staff and the press are leaking is almost certainly because they do not feel the president is responding to their private communications. It is likely this drum beat will continue until Biden acquiesces.
Biden is reportedly having a meeting with his family at Camp David to discuss his political future, today. However, his press team says this meeting was “pre-planned.”
Biden’s New Fight
Now Biden has a new fight on his hands, on top of needing to triage his public image, he must quell rebellion from donors before his campaign coffers run out of money and the Democrat National Convention starts in about two months.
Each one of these tasks alone could be enough to consume all of his time–– never mind the fact he only has a 6-hour window in each day to do it.
On top of this, voters are jumping ship. Snap polls are showing a precipitous decline in his electoral prospects.
72% of voters no longer think Biden has the mental capacity to be president, according to a CBS YouGov Poll.
Almost half of registered Democrat voters are now saying Biden should not be running for president. Likewise, Trump led Biden by more than 20 points on all of the post-debate survey questions about who “explained ideas clearly” and “appeared presidential,” amongst other things.
Most ominously for Biden, 48% of respondents said they were thinking “A lot about the presidential race.” Now that figure is 58%.
Recapturing the Swing States
As Biden’s stalwart allies in the corporate press abandon his candidacy, the swing states also leave him.
Trump was leading in all 7 swing states (Michigan, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Georgia, North Carolina, Arizona and Nevada) before the debates. It is inconceivable, given Biden’s debate performance, that these figures have somehow reversed.
Moreover, some states like Virginia are now in play, according to most recent polling. Trump has capitalized on this. His first event after the debate was in Chesapeake, Virginia, alongside Republican Governor Glenn Youngkin.
On top of the loss of swing states, Biden would need to spend considerable resources to sure-up once dependable Democrat states like Virginia.
However, no Republican presidential candidate has won Virginia since 2004.
Succession Wars
Whether Biden voluntarily withdraws from the race or is pushed out by donors at the convention, there will be a concerted effort to replace him from younger, healthier, and hungrier usurpers.
Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer and California Governor Gavin Newson are widely floated as Biden’s likely successors. Both have prominent national profiles, although part of that is damaging due to the fact they are so closely associated with the totalitarian excesses of the COVID era.
Both have been media-trained and have wide name recognition. Newson is substantially more well-known than Whitmer but Whitmer is popular in her home state, whereas a majority of voters in California disapprove of Newsom.
It is possible, indeed likely, that both are already making phone calls to donors who have dropped the president.
These figures, and perhaps a few others, now have license to act upon the presidential impulses they have been throttling for years.
Vice President Kamala Harris is not being floated as Biden’s successor. Likewise, her donor base and polling would not support a candidacy, at this time.
When this plane flew over Biden’s Hamptons fundraiser, it was correct.
However, it must be remembered that while Biden is over, the election is not. There is still a long road ahead until November.
If Republicans get cocky in the slightest, they could hand the election to Biden’s successor.
