Democrats & Auto Workers are Chris Brown & Rihanna
In case you missed it, Senate Democrats voted against a “Buy American” provision in a recent bill to purchase charging stations for electric vehicles for America’s ongoing Highway Infrastructure project. Buy American clauses require that whenever the federal government purchases something for a project, they must choose American manufacturers over other countries’ manufacturers.
One of the major reasons United Auto Workers (UAW) cited for their strike against the major auto companies these past months has been the rapid transition toward electric vehicles. Electric vehicles cost American autoworkers jobs because the manufacturers prefer to have production overseas and because EVs have fewer parts than combustion vehicles. Biden has encouraged this shift toward electric vehicles at the expense of American workers because of his green energy policies like his executive order directing the federal government to purchase only emissionless vehicles by 2027.
When the UAW struck, they were not shy about sharing their frustration with their long-time Democrat companions. “UAW members feel abandoned by the Democratic Party,” former UAW President Bob King said in an interview.
For a moment, the UAW seemed like Rihanna in the 2000s, beat to hell by her lover–– BUT THIS TIME she was going to leave him. And yet…
Biden begged UAW to take him back. He showed up to Detroit with his hair slicked back, offering gifts of chocolate and flowers. Biden even went as far as to make history by being the first president to march in a picket line.
So UAW used a little concealer, covered its black eye, and decided to give Biden another chance. “Remember all the good times we used to have?”
Unsurprisingly, the DNC has cold-cocked UAW again. The Democrats did not change, abusers never do. Just weeks after they supposedly made up, the Democrats have again tried to send American dollars to China, rather than to our auto workers in the Rust Belt.
Fortunately, the Buy American provision passed the Senate, thanks almost entirely to Republicans with two wise Democrat defectors (Joe Manchin of West Virginia and Sherod Brown of Ohio). Nearly every Rust Belt Democrat voted against the Buy America clause, indicating the capture of the DNC by climate activists.
If it is not clear already, Rust Belt Democrats would rather cost themselves thousands in donations and votes from auto workers and encourage the decline of America’s industrial base than risk pissing off Greta Thunberg.
UAW (and our white working class broadly) must remember, “There is no excuse for abuse”. Help is out there. There are resources available. We recommend contacting Republican Senator J.D. Vance’s office for more information.
